Celebrating Andrew Einhorn: 14 Years of Learning and Growth
November 3, 2025We know that the gap between resourced and under-resourced learners in South Africa is stark, particularly in mathematics, where fewer than 3 out of every 100 learners who start school together end matric with a maths mark of 60% or better. At Numeric, we understand that education extends far beyond the formal school day and is deeply influenced by the support systems around a learner. For over a decade, our After-School Maths Programs have been specifically designed to address this unequal access to quality maths education.
Our programs directly close the gap for learners in low-income areas like Khayelitsha, Soweto, and Clermont. We provide a vital space where 2,500 Grade 6 and 7 learners annually can reconnect with mathematics, building strong foundations and filling critical knowledge gaps through a high-impact curriculum. This intervention does more than improve marks (our learners improve twice as much as their peers); it builds their confidence and fosters a positive attitude towards the subject.
“I was afraid of maths at the start of the year, but Numeric taught me; no, I must be confident about myself and follow my dreams!” – Former Numeric Learner, Cape Town.
Crucially, our after-school classes provide access to caring and capable champions: our B.Ed. student interns. These interns, often from the very communities they serve, are trained and equipped to be passionate and effective teachers. They offer not just academic instruction but also mentorship, becoming positive role models. Through this comprehensive approach, we see improved academic results, a stronger foundation for future STEM opportunities, and a greater sense of well-being, setting learners on a path toward long-term stability.
